The committee of the NGO CSW, New York, honored Rana as one of the two awardees for this year for her long-term contribution in women's rights movement in Nepal. The committee also honored Nigerian environment minister Amina Muhammad with the same award.Notable rights activist Rana has been actively engaged in promoting women's rights and gender equality for more than 25 years through the different organizations and networks she has founded.
"She has worked from the grassroots to the national, regional and global level to address the concerns of women survivors of violence and conflict, marginalized and destitute women and their empowerment," reads a release issued by NGO CSW, NY, on Saturday.
The release even applauds Rana saying that the latter has led and designed advocacy, research, and public outreach and community mobilization programs for women rights for many years.
She is also the Founder Convenor of the National Network for Beijing Review and the Founder Coordinator of the National Network against Domestic Violence. Rana had served as chair of National Women's Commission in Nepal.
Rana will be the keynote speaker for the consultation day which is going to be held on March 13, a day before the inauguration of the 60th session of the CSW. This year's theme is on women's empowerment and the link to sustainable development with a review theme of eliminating and preventing of all forms of violence against women and girls.
