KATHMANDU, Dec 12 : Vice-Chairman of CPN-UML Surendra Pandey has urged that at least 20 percent of the Central Committee be composed of youth in the upcoming 11th General Convention starting December 13.
Speaking at a youth gathering organized ahead of the convention, Pandey emphasized the need to move away from the tradition of forming committees based on name recognition and instead cultivate a culture of selecting leaders directly from active party workers.

“From the next convention onward, we will try to ensure that at least 20 percent of the Central Committee includes young leaders. Youth must be part of leadership. Without their energy and vision, the party cannot function effectively,” Pandey said. “Combining the strength of youth with the experience of seasoned members is essential to building a powerful party.”
He also highlighted the party’s commitment to competitive meritocracy, reflecting the core principle of multi-party democracy.
