UML suggests govt to sign ‘significant’ agreements with China

KATHMANDU, March 8: The major ruling party CPN-UML has called on the government to take the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming China visit as an opportunity for signing bilateral agreements of ‘significant’ value including the Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Act (BIPPA).

The 34th Standing Committee meeting of the party that concluded Monday suggested that the government should not solely depend on a single nation for transit facility, instead it should go for other alternatives too.


The meeting asked the government to move towards the northern neighbor for cooperation bearing in mind hard times it experienced due to India's unofficial blockade.

Prime Minister and party Chair Oli apprised the meeting of the preparations and plans for his upcoming China visit and took inputs from the SC members, according to party Secretary Pradeep Gywali.

The Prime Minister was requested to make elaborative efforts for making the China visit successful, result-oriented and historic.
In response, Oli pledged to take meeting feedbacks seriously.

 According to UML Central Office Secretary Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Nepal will propose BIPPA, transport, trade, cross-border agreement, energy development, opening new transits to the northern neighbor, installation of direct gasoline between the two countries and expansion of railway service to Nepal and construction of fuel storage in Nepal before the Chinese government during the PM's visit.


Formation of national unity government stressed

The meeting has appealed to the political parties out of ruling coalition for forging a consensus and urged the incumbent government to be effortful for forming a national unity government.

The meeting has considered the CPN-UML-led incumbent government, successful for being able to deal with the border blockade and usher the country ahead through various hard times.

The meeting also stressed on easing the supply of essential goods as the border blockade has been lifted.

 Central committee meeting within April 12

The Standing Committee has decided to call for the party's politburo meeting on April 5 and 6 whereas the Central Committee meeting is called on April 9 to 12.

Yesterday’ s meeting has also reviewed that the two-month constitution publicity drive ' Campaign for Constitution Implementation and National Unity Strengthening ' was carried out successfully. RSS
