KATHMANDU, May 27: CPN-UML has said its volunteers mobilized in earthquake-hit districts have cleared the debris of over 250 buildings destroyed in the disaster and handed valuables and other belongings to their rightful owners in the last couple of days.

"The volunteers have also cleared the debris of four temples that collapsed in the earthquake," said a statement issued by UML deputy chief of publicity department on Wednesday.

The party has said they have mobilized their volunteers in 15 constituencies, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot and Sindhuli districts and that they have built over 200 temporary houses in these areas. The party's coordinator of national volunteers' mobilization campaign, Gokarna Bista, directed its members to give priority to building shelters for the displaced people and removing precarious structures. "He has directed the volunteers to give priority to rebuilding government schools," said the statement.

The UML said its members have been mobilized in 51 constituencies of 17 districts worst hit by the earthquake.

The party last week announced a month-long campaign to mobilize over 10,000 volunteers to support quake-affected communities in making shelters and other rehabilitation tasks.
