As per the campaign, the UML has mobilized a team of 10,000 volunteers that also included central committee members to construct temporary houses, huts, and shelters in 17 quake-affected districts.Chairman KP Sharma Oli bade farewell to the volunteers for the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding districts after administering the oath at Brikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Similarly, the UML deployed various teams of volunteers for Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Sindhuli, Chitwan, Makawanpur, Gorkha, Lamjung and Tanahun, among other districts outside the Valley. The party has already prepared directives, code of conduct, and other materials to run the campaign which was released by party Chairman Oli on the occasion.
Speaking at the programme, UML Chairman Oli said the entire party mechanism has been mobilized in building the nation after the disaster and urged one and all to carry out their duties in an efficient manner. Though there is limited resources for the task, volunteers have been mobilized with the feeling to provide sincere services. "We are going to face difficulties to free people from their hardship," said Oli.
The UML's Standing Committee meeting on May 17 formulated a Campaign Mobilization Committee under the coordination of UML Secretary Gokarnaraj Bista.
Former Prime Minister and UML leader Madhav Nepal said the volunteers could contribute labours to reinstate the displaced quake survivors and make UML as the biggest political party by winning the people's heart.
Likewise, the UML's Publicity Department Chief Yogesh Bhattarai said the voluntary service would show the world how Nepalis are working to re-build the nation. RSS
