UML convention representative selection disputes hit 8 districts

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The CPN (UML) has received complaints from eight district committees in the selection of the representatives for the forthcoming 11th general convention scheduled for December 13-15.



Secretary of the general convention representatives' management committee, Madhav Dhungel, confirmed that complaints were received at the central office from eight districts over the dispute in the selection process of the representatives.


It is said that the complaints were lodged over the procedural gaps in the selection process of the representatives.

According to Dhungel, such complaints were received from Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Dang, Banke, Bajhang, Tanahun, Bara and Rautahat. It is said that the representatives were not selected as per due process in the eight districts. 


Dhungel claimed that the issues of disputes in the districts would be resolved soon.


The selection of the representatives for the UML's forthcoming national general convention was held on Saturday. 


Around 2,200 representatives are being selected from the organized party members of the UML. The party has reserved a quota for at least one youth representative from each federal electoral constituency. 


Additionally, 45 representatives will be chosen from provincial committees, around 1,000 from parliamentary constituencies, 47 from special district committees, 81 from the Dalit community, and 40 from trade unions.


According to party rules, 354 representatives from the organizing central committee will automatically be eligible to attend the Convention. Moreover, 29 representatives from the Central Discipline Commission, 30 from the Audit Commission, 25 from the Election Commission, and 25 from the Advisory Council will also automatically participate, bringing the total number of automatic representatives to 464.
