UCPN (Maoist) proposes civil society member as PM

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The ruling UCPN (Maoist) on Thursday formally put forth a proposal to make a figure from civil society the next prime minister and hold new Constituent Assembly elections



The party´s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal floated the proposal during a meeting of the Maoist party, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML this afternoon. Leaders from NC and UML, however, rejected the Maoist proposal. [break]



"We proposed to go to elections with prime minister from civil society, but they (the participating NC and UML leaders) did not agree," Maoist leader Amik Sherchan said after the meeting. “We will continue talks tomorrow" he added.
