UCPN (Maoist) general convention to see 2500 participants

KATHMANDU, Dec 17: The most awaited general convention of the ruling UCPN (Maoist) which is going to be held after two decades will see around 2,500 Maoist leaders participating. The party has fixed the Hetauda Textile Factory in Hetauda as the venue.



"Around 2,500 representatives will participate in the general convention from within and outside the country," Dor Prasad Upadhyaya, the secretary of UCPN (Maoist) head office, told Republica.[break]



According to Upadhyaya, around 100 representatives will participate from India and around 20 from Europe, America and other parts of the Asia.



The party has almost completed conventions at the village and municipal levels.



The party had announced to hold general convention two years ago but that could not be held. Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is in the helm of the party for the past two decades. The general convention held in Chitwan in 1992 had elected him party chief.
