KATHMANDU, June 5: Global ride-hailing platform Uber has officially entered the Nepali market, marking a significant step in the country’s expanding digital economy and transport sector.
The service was formally launched in Kathmandu on Friday, positioning Uber alongside existing ride-hailing platforms already operating in Nepal.
Speaking at the launch event, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Nepal, Chelan Bliss, said Uber’s arrival signals strong international confidence in Nepal’s economic and technological development.

She described the company’s entry as a “vote of confidence” in Nepal’s future trajectory and its people, highlighting growing global interest in the country’s digital transformation.
The launch is expected to broaden transport options for consumers while also creating new opportunities for drivers, entrepreneurs, and digital service providers in Nepal’s growing ride-hailing ecosystem.
Uber’s entry places it in competition with existing platforms such as InDrive, Pathao, Tootle, and Yango, which have already established their presence in the Nepali market.
The U.S. Embassy also reiterated its support for Nepal’s ongoing digital growth, noting that American companies are contributing to innovation and economic opportunities through technology-driven services.
Uber’s launch is seen as part of a broader trend of international tech companies expanding into emerging South Asian markets as digital adoption accelerates.
