Two held for stealing human remains from burning pyre

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Police on Sunday arrested two persons for stealing remains of a human body while it was being cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat.



They are accused of “stealing pieces of bone from the body” as it was being burnt during the last rites at Pashupati Aryaghat on Friday. The arrested individuals are Ganesh Dhakal and his aide, according to Superintendent of Police Kuldip Chand at the Kathmandu Police Range.

“They were apprehended after police received a complaint from the relatives of the deceased, Ram Shahi, from Banepa Municipality-9 in Kavre. The relatives alleged that Dhakal and his aide extracted a piece of bone from the body and handed it over to a tantric while the cremation was taking place,” Chand said. The incident occurred on Friday.


Police have launched an investigation into the case. The suspects are currently being held at Gaushala Police Office.
