Driver Suraj Kandel of Surkhet, and Kalu Shahi of Kalikot, have gone missing after their jeep (Lu 1 Ta 2829) fell off a cliff at Pipalkot VDC-5 of Dailekh district.[break] Their bodies as well as the jeep that had plunged into the river had not been recovered till Wednesday evening, according to the police.
Two separate teams of policemen from Dailekh and Achham were searching for them till Wednesday evening, according to DSP Sudarshan Thapa, chief of District Police Office of Dailekh. “The search effort is hindered by rains and the swollen river,” he said.
According to Man Bahadur Thapa, a local resident of Pipalkot VDC, a wad of Rs 12,500 was found floating by the river bank. The jeep, which had gone to Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot, to supply broiler chickens, met with the accident while returning to Dailekh.
Sandeep Thapa, 14, the assistant of Kandel, told the police that there were only two people in the jeep. Thapa was not in the jeep while returning from Kalikot.
The cliff, locally called Kittubhir, from which the jeep fell, is the same place where a deadly road accident one-and-a half years ago killed 26 peopled.
Only on Monday night, 28 people had died in a major road accident along the Karnali Highway.
