KATHMANDU, April 16: Police arrested two individuals on Tuesday night while they were transporting marijuana by floating it along the Saptakoshi River using bamboo.
Acting on a tip-off about drug smuggling in the river at Barahakshetra Municipality-6, Sunsari, a police team seized marijuana packed in nine plastic sacks.
A team deployed from the Area Police Office, Mahendranagar Chakraghatta, arrested 20-year-old Bishesh Majhi and 18-year-old Roshan Shrestha, both residents of Ward No. 6 of Barahakshetra, with 225 kg of marijuana. Police also confiscated a motorcycle (registration number Ko 30 Pa 9475) that had been hidden along the riverbank.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, more than 15 kg of marijuana was recovered from a car in Inaruwa-10 on Wednesday morning. According to police, the marijuana was seized from a car (registration number Ko 1 Cha 3611).

The vehicle had been followed from the Indian border area of Dewanganj based on information. When police attempted to stop and inspect the car in Inaruwa-10, the driver tried to flee upon seeing the officers. After a chase, the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped.
According to DSP Chandra Khadka of the District Police Office, Sunsari, two individuals were in the car, and an investigation is ongoing as they managed to flee.
