Likewise, shortage of construction materials due to the strike has affected construction works of Mid-hills Highway, Mechi Highway and other feeder roads. [break]
The truck entrepreneurs are on strike for the past two weeks demanding that clients themselves pay load-unload fee and local development tax.
Traders in Taplejung are already facing shortage of LG gas, salt, cooking oil, rice and pulses as they haven’t received fresh supplies for the past two weeks.
“We’ve tried many times to forge understanding with the truck entrepreneurs. But office-bearers of the association are not ready for dialogue,” said Santosh Khatiwada, chairman of Taplejung Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The situation in Panchthar is also the same. “We are facing shortage of daily commodities, as we haven’t received fresh supplies after the truckers announced strike,” Subaraj Thapa, chairman of Panchthar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said.
Locals and business people have slammed the authorities concerned for not doing the needful to find a solution to the problem.
“We won’t withdraw our strike unless our demands are addressed,” Kamal Kharel, chairman of the association, said. He also accused the traders of misinterpreting their demands.
Deepak Dangal, general secretary of the association, said traders should have no problem in paying load-unload fee and local development tax, as traders in other 72 districts are already doing so.
