NAWALPUR, Nov 20: Vehicular movement along the Narayanghat–Butwal section of the East–West Highway will be suspended for two nights at the Narayani River bridge area connecting Nawalpur and Chitwan.
According to the Eastern Section of the Narayanghat–Butwal Road Project, the road will be closed for five hours each night — from 11 PM to 4 AM — on November 21 and 22 to carry out blacktopping work on the western approach road of the bridge.
Project Chief Engineer Ishwar Bahadur Rizal said the nighttime closure is necessary to complete the asphalt work safely. “The road approaching the Narayani bridge on the Gaindakot side is under construction. As the work requires a complete halt of traffic, the highway will remain closed during the specified hours,” he said.
Signature bridge to be built over Narayani River
During the closure, vehicles heading east will be stopped at various locations in Nawalpur, while those traveling west will be halted at designated points in Chitwan. Rizal urged motorists to either wait at the marked holding areas or use alternative routes, as the road will remain closed for six hours each night.
Passenger vehicles traveling east from Butwal — including buses, minibuses, microbuses, and small four-wheelers — will be stopped west of Thumsi. Heavy vehicles such as trucks, trailers, containers, and lorries will be halted west of Beldihā.
Similarly, vehicles heading west via Nawalpur will be stopped in Chitwan before reaching Nawalpur. Passenger vehicles will be held between Ramnagar and Jugedi along the Muglin–Narayanghat road, and between the Central Bus Park and Gondrang along the East–West Highway. Heavy cargo trucks will be stopped between Jugedi and Dasdhunga and from Gondrang to Tikauli.
Commuters have long faced difficulties due to potholes and poor road conditions along the under-construction section. Once the 170-meter stretch west of the Narayani bridge is blacktopped, it will complete nearly 60 kilometers of continuous pavement up to Daunne on the Narayanghat–Butwal corridor.
