Traffic FM in offing

KATHMANDU, March 16: In a bid to create awareness on traffic rules and ease vehicular traffic in the Kathmandu Valley, Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD), Ramshahpath is all set to launch its own frequency modulation (FM) station.



MTPD will start broadcasting from “Metro Traffic FM” at 95.6 within three months. [break]



“The FM station basically aims at creating traffic awareness,” said DIG Ganesh Raj Rai, chief at MTPD, Ramsahapath.



The government had given the nod to establish the 24-hour FM station on January 10, 2012. Similarly, the government has allocated Rs 3 million to set up the station.

MTPD aims at operating the station for 14 hours that will carry out the activities related to traffic police. The station, however, will embrace various activities of the Nepal police and entertainment later, said Rai.



A team of 40 police personnel are currently working for the FM. MTPD will set up the FM station at MTPD office, Ramsahapath.



We are yet to finalize things as directive and Statement of Purpose is yet to be finalized by the police headquarters, said Rai, adding, “The directive will finalize the number of police personnel to be employed at the station.”



The traffic police related programs are currently being aired by Radio Nepal, Kantipur FM, Radio Sagarmatha and Radio City.
