TMDP had formed a three-member committee headed by its vice-chairman Hridayash Tripathi for the purpose last month. [break]
The committee held first round of talks last week and is scheduled to hold next round on Saturday.
"We received mixed reactions from the leaders as some of them termed our initiatives as a difficult job while some were optimistic," said a central committee TMDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
The leader said they would decide on how to move ahead after holding three/four rounds of discussion with Madhesi leaders.
General Secretary of TMDP-Nepal Govinda Chaudhari said it is difficult to draw any conclusion immediately as the talks are in preliminary stages.
"Let´s see what will be the result as there is nothing wrong in trying for single Madhesi party," Chaudhari added.
TMDP-Nepal had split from the TMDP following differences between Mahantha Thakur and Mahendra Raya Yadav.
Similarly, General Secretary of Sadbhawana Party Manish Suman termed the initiative taken by TMDP as a positive step. "The second-rung and third-rung leaders of Madhesi parties wish to see a single party in Madhes," he maintained.
TMDP leaders argue that formation of a single Madhesi party is essential in order to exert pressure on the state for addressing Madhesi causes.
However, political analyst Tulanarayan Sah stated that it is not possible to form a single Madhesi party. "Madhesi politics will move ahead with the formation of an alliance among Madhes-based parties," said Sah, adding, "There will be more than one Madhesi alliance in future."
