KATHMANDU, Nov 7:  Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) resumed operations after remaining closed for four hours due to a malfunction in its airfield lighting system. The problem, which began around 5:30 p.m., had halted both takeoffs and landings, said Airport Director and Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa.

“The cause of the lighting failure is under investigation. We will identify it after a detailed study,” Sherpa said.

During the disruption, several international flights were put on hold in the air, while others were diverted to alternate airports. Domestic flights were grounded at the airport.

The airfield lighting system is essential for illuminating the runway during nighttime operations. Normal flight activities have now resumed following the repair of the lighting issue.
