Three who recommended citizenship for Indian criminal freed

ITAHARI, Jan 4: Three people, including a government officer, who recommended Nepali citizenship for an Indian criminal, have been freed on general date on Wednesday.



Sunsari District Court on Wednesday released Nunulal Urav, soil expert at Regional Soil Investigation Lab Jhumka who recommended citizenship for Indian criminal Niranjan Hojai; Jagat Bahadur Rai of Dharan who posed as Hojai´s father; and ward member Santosh Lama Tamang on general date. [break]



A single bench of District Judge Kaji Bahadur Rai released the three on general date after making each of them deposit a bail sum of Rs 35,000, said the court´s officer Dhruba Pokharel.



Following Urav´s release, government employees who had enforced an indefinite shutdown of government offices in the district from Tuesday, will be back to work from Thursday.



Urav had issued a recommendation for Hojai in December 2006 in the capacity of a government officer.
