Three held with fake Indian currency

BIRGANJ, April 19: The police on Friday arrested three persons for carrying fake Indian currency notes from Birgunj. This is the second such arrest over the last three days.



According to the police, Surendra Prasad Gupta, 40, of Birgunj-9, Shrawan Sharma, 30, of Birganj-30, and Sudhir Kumar Kushwaha, 31, of Chhatawa-3 of Bara were arrested in possession of Indian currency notes worth Rs 298,500. [break]



“We had received information that a consignment of fake Indian currency notes was arriving in Birgunj,” said Inspector Manohar Bhatta. “We recovered from them 150 and 297 notes of 1,000 and 500 denominations respectively,” said Bhatta.



Surendra, one of the arrested, is learnt to have been released last year after serving a three-year jail term in India for his involvement in the fake Indian currency racket.



Likewise, Indian national Sudhir was also in the list of wanted criminals for his involvement in the racket. The arrested are said to be local agents of an international fake currency racket.
