The rally bodies of the deceased bodies, started from Biratnagar-based Koshi Zonal Hospital, moved around he city and headed toward Rangeli in the district. Following the procession in Biratnagar, participant locals and cadres also marched with the bodies around Rangeli.
Vehicles stayed off the road and marketplaces, schools and colleges remained close during the funeral march. A huge number of security personnel was deployed in the city in order to prevent any untoward incident.
The top leaders of Madhes-based parties who joined the funeral procession organized in Biratnagar, the district headquarters of Morang, blamed the state for the Rangeli killings. Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Upendra Yadav, Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato,
Coordinator of Tarai-Madhes Abhiyan Jayprakash Gupta, Sarbendra Shukla were among the top leaders attending the procession.
“We demand proper investigation into the Rangeli incident,” said FSFN Chairman Yadav. Before the start of the funeral procession, cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) clashed with the police at Mahabir Chowk of Biratnagar. Both sides pelted stones at each other. The UDMF cadres smashed a police vehicle.
On Thursday, Draupadi Devi Chaudhary, 58, of Rangeli, Shibu Majhi, 20, of Dayniya, and Mahadev Rishidev, 28, of Bardanga succumbed to bullet injuries after police opened fire when Madhesi demonstrators tried to disrupt a program in Rangeli organized by Youth Force (YF), the youth wing of CPN-UML.
