Maoist cadres in Bara, Parsa and Rautahat expressed such concern after seven of their colleagues, including five state committee members, were gunned down in the area over the last two months. “They have threatened to kill us if we do not quit the party,” said a Maoist cadres requesting anonymity.
He said that a person identifying himself as Abhaya Singh had threatened him over the phone a few days ago asking him to join another party.
“Currently, state committee members are our prime target,” the cadre quoted him as saying. “We will have no concern if you quit the UCPN-Maoist and join another party.”
An unidentified armed group shot dead three Maoists cadres in Ganjbhawanipur area of Bara on January 6. A week later, another Maoist cadre Rajesh Mandal was shot dead in Nitanpur area in Bara.
Likewise, Maoist Bhojpura State Committee member Shambhu Yadav was murdered on February 12 in Parsa by an unidentified armed group. The murder followed the killing of another Maoist state committee member Laxman Roy Yadav in the district.
Maoist Bhojpura State Committee Secretary and the Maoist central member Anjana Bishankhe said their cadres in Tarai districts have fallen prey to armed groups after the party launched the movement for national independence.
