Birendra Lal Shrestha and Nem Bahadur Shrestha are the newly elected vice-presidents while Jagat Man Shrestha is the general secretary. Pawan Upadhyaya was elected as the joint-secretary and Ishwar Karki as the secretary. Rabindra Prasad Yadav is the new treasurer.
Other elected members of NSA are Olympians Nayana Shakya and Karishma Karki, Ratna Lal Maharjan, Narayan Pradhan, Najiruddin Muslim, Mohammad Tazim Muslim, Manoj Kumar Dawadi, Kismat BK Ramdam, Basudev Niraula, Ranjan Bhattarai and Bishwa Tandukar.
A meeting of the newly elected committee on Friday decided to nominate Ramesh Man Malla as their vice president. Malla was the vice president of the earlier working committee.
NSC Member Secretary Hari Babu Chaudhari distributed certificates to the newly elected members.
The election is believed to further widen the gap between NSC, the apex sports body of the nation, and NOC.
NSC had formed an ad hoc committee headed by Ansari in July, dissolving another committee headed by Pragun Shamsher Rana despite Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC)´s continuous pleas not to dissolve sports associations in undemocratic fashion.
The rift between the two bodies is taking its toll on the swimmers whose participation in the 16th Asian Games has become uncertain. NSA had forwarded the names of Shailesh Rana and Shaila Rana for participation in the Asiad but NOC has not accepted the names stating that they didn´t receive the names from NSC in time.
The other reason for the refusal is that NOC supports the dissolved working committee of NSA.
