A meeting of the District Bird-flu Control Technical Committee headed by the Chief District Officer decided to enforce the ban for next the 15 days after the bird flu cases were reported in major poultry producing districts.[break]

Cases of avian-influenza were found recently in Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Jhapa which have been supplying poultry products such as chicken, chicks, eggs and poultry manure to Surkhet.

The committee took the decision after consulting with poultry entrepreneurs and technicians.

The district administration has directed the police to step up surveillance on the movement of poultry products at major entry points.

Surkhet has been sourcing around 200,000 chickens every month from different districts.
