KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Sudan Gurung, coordinator of Hami Nepal, has warned that upcoming elections will not be allowed to proceed unless the demands of the Gen-Z movement are addressed.
On Thursday, Gurung, also a Gen Z activist, expressed strong dissatisfaction on social media with Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal’s style of governance and issued the warning to the government. He accused the home minister of failing to listen to public voices and of being unable to maintain public trust.
“With calls across the country to ‘punish the killers’ and ‘take action against corrupt people,’ remaining silent on ‘take action against those who wrong Gen-Z’ while clinging to the post of home minister is an insult to the nation,” Gurung wrote.

He questioned Minister Aryal’s capability, saying that even after two months in office the minister has failed to bring any alleged corrupt officials or perpetrators of killings to account.
Gurung clarified that their movement did not protest to move the 2027/28 elections up to 2082 2025/26. He said that unless the demands of the Nepali people and Gen-Z are met, they will prevent elections from taking place.
Gurung has urged the home minister to honor his earlier pledge to resign if he cannot deliver. “Remember your promise: if you cannot do the work, leave the post. Mr Om Prakash Aryal, that time has come,” he wrote, adding that the minister should not assume his position is secure simply because he is close to the prime minister.
Key demands of the Gen-Z movement include action against corrupt officials, good governance, and prioritising youth issues. Gurung warned that their protest will continue until these demands are met and said the government will have to face the consequences.
