Study in Australia fair sees huge participation

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The Australian Embassy in Nepal in partnership with the Australian Trade Commission, the Australian Department of Education and the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship organized “Study in Australia- Australian Education Fair” in Kathmandu on Thursday. [break]



The fair was organized with the aim to showcase the prospects of Australia´s education and training system for international students. Delegates from 28 educational institutions from Australia participated in the fair to provide information about education options in Australia. The fair is expected to have helped prospective students to pick Australian education institutions that best suit their educational options.



“The fair has been more like a brand-building awareness exercise,” said Sameena Ahmad, market coordinator of the University of Newcastle, Australia, adding, “Precisely, it has helped people to know that the university exists.”



The fair with a series of seminars covered topics including “Why Australia?”, “Getting ready to go- practical matters and visa advice,” and also information on scholarships and migration opportunities. According to Kelly Raj, Education Counselor of Australian High Commission, they participated in the seminar to offer the right advice to students.



In the academic session starting June, 2009, as many as 18,918 Nepali students enrolled in Australian universities and colleges.



Anish Lamichhane, a high school graduate from United Academy said he preferred Australian education for its excellence and world-wide recognition. “Australia´s standard of living is one of the highest in the world and I´d love to study in a multi-cultural community to understand world better,” he said.
