A technical team from the District Livestock Service Office had culled 5,220 chickens and 850 kilograms of poultry feed in the farm after the presence of H1N5 virus was confirmed last Tuesday.
However, failure of the technical team involved to accomplish the task of burying the culled birds and feed properly has given rise to a stinking ordour, inviting flies and other disease-carrying insects, says local Nuchhe Bhakta Joshi.[break]
The poultry excreta, feathers and fertilizers were not buried by the technical team and thus leading to a fear of infection spreading among the locals, said Joshi.
Meanwhile, residents of some 16 households in the area today picketed the Metropolitan Police Circle and demanded immediate addressing of the problems.
The locals also ghearoed the Chief of the District Livestock Service Office, Bhaktapur Khagendra Raj Bhatta, who had reached the police office.
On the occasion, Office Chief Bhatta pledged to take a team to the affected site today and do the needful.
"We have been forced to go back to our ancestral home in Tathali as a result of the unbearable ordour of the culled chickens and feed", said local Kamal Raj Thapa.
