SPORTS BRIEFS: Soft tennis team off to Chinese Taipei

KATHMANDU, Nov 12: An 18-member Nepali soft tennis team left Kathmandu on Monday to participate in the Seventh Asian Soft Tennis Championship to be held in Chiayi, Chinese Taipei from November 14 to 21. The team includes ten players, two coaches, a judge and five officials. Sohan Dhaubadel, Raju Patuwar, Kamal Bahadur Bhandari, Krishna Bahadur Raut and Manoj Subba are the male players participating in the tournament while Niru Kayastha, Chandra Maya Rai, Ritu Gurung, Rekha Tuladhar and Eliza Ranjit will represent Nepal in women´s section.



Dushyanta Thapa and Nira Kayastha are the coaches of Nepali team. Bikash Singh Thakuri will be one of the judges in the tournament, while Debendra Prasad Bharati is the head of the delegates. [break]



Binay Bikram Shah, Ananda Prasad Shrestha, Sanjay Nepal and Kabindra Panta are the other officials who are to participate in the general assembly of Asian Soft Tennis Federation. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama bade farewell to the team amidst a program in the capital on Monday.



NSC bids farewell to swimmers



KATHMANDU
: National Sports Council (NSC) and Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) on Monday bade farewell to the Nepali team participating in the 9th Asian Swimming Championship in Dubai, UAE between November 15 to 19. An eight-member Nepali team, including four swimmers, will fly to Dubai on Wednesday. Multiple national record holder Shishir Gurung is to participate in 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle events in the championship while Miraj Prajapati will compete in 100m and 50m backstroke events of male section.



Likewise, Shreya Dhital will vie in women´s 100m and 50 m freestyle as well as 50m butterfly. Her sister Aditi will also compete in 50m and 100m freestyle. Rabin Kumar Paudel is the coach in the Nepali team while Najiruddin Muslim is the team manager. Meanwhile, NSA President Ashok Bajracharya and member Yuvaraj Sunuwar will fly to Dubai to participate in the general assembly of Asian Swimming Federation. NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama and NSA officials bade farewell to the Nepali team on Monday amidst a program in the capital.
