Wushu team off to Macau
KATHMANDU: Nepali wushu team, including three players, left Kathmandu on Monday to participate in the 14th Junior World Championship to be held in Macau from September 17 to 25. Chahana Bamjan Lama will compete in the girls´ 60 kg sanshou while Rinji Sherpa will vie in boys´ chang quan event.
Likewise, Bishal Sinjali is to compete in boys´ nan quan. Yuvaraj Gurung will be the coach of Nepali team. Nepal Wushu Association officials bade farewell to the team at the Tribhuwan International Airport.
Rimal wins 10km race
KATHMANDU: Hari Kumar Rimal won gold in men´s 10 km race of the Chief of Army Staff Trophy on Monday. Rimal clocked 31 minute 13.19 seconds to win the gold while Krishna Basnet and Raj Kumar Bista claimed silver and bronze medal respectively. Dilli Khatri clinched men´s long jump gold medal while Dinesh Chaudhary and Ram Krishna Shrestha finished on the second and third position. In men´s javelin throw, Dhirendra Jung Shah finished on the top of the podium. Dirgha Adhikari and Bishnu Rana remained on the second and third position respectively.
Ideal Model wins 5th final of ´Real School of Nepal´
KATHMANDU: Ideal Model Higher Secondary School has become the winner of the 5th finals of ´Real School of Nepal´ held in the central development region. ´Real School of Nepal´ is a national level competition launched on August 2, where schools from all over Nepal are competing. The competition was held in eastern, western, and central regions. According to a press statement, Ekta Mishra, Pratima Gurung, Rujen Amatya, Hirona Neupane, Anushka Shrestha and Pujan Ale were the participant from the winning school. "There were 21 participant schools and the participating students participated in competitions held in different categories confidently and enthusiastically," the statement said.
Ailing coach Rai gets financial support
KATHMANDU: Senior assistant chief coach and Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) member Nanda Kumar Rai was given Rs 444,731 for treatment on Sunday. Rai was diagnosed of having intestinal cancer last year. The amount was collected from various institutions and individuals. Shyam Dangol, the coordinator of the fund collection committee handed over the amount to Rai. International Nepalese Taekwondo Association (INTA) US provided Rs 210,371, INTA Hong Kong Rs 84,970, INTA London Rs 70,890. Similarly, taekwondo coaches and assistant coaches chipped in Rs 52,500, Rs 10,000 was received from NTA Vice President Sanjiv Regmi, whereas NTA members Sanjiv Tuladhar, Harishwar Pokharel and Rabi Thapa provided Rs 10,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
