In junior boys´ title clash Wilson saw off hosts 43-33. Sunil Khatri scored 10 points for the winning side. Teresa´s Sunil Thapamagar top scored with 24 points.
Thapamagar was later declared the most valuable player. Skylark won the fair play award. The six-day long tournament featured six teams in girls´ and 12 teams in junior boys´ categories.
Duwas wins Orphanage chess title
Sagar Duwas of Buddhist Child Home (BCH) clinched the title of Inter Orphanage U-14 Chess Tournament on Sunday, maintaining his wining streak with seven points in his kitty.
He defeated Surendra Duwas of BCH in the sixth round and beat Narendra Buda of Helpless in the other round.
Likewise, scoring equal 5.5 points as that of Basanta Khadka of Helpless, Surendra Duwas of BCH secured second position on the basis of progressive point.
Similarly, Narendra Buda (Helpless), Bharat Bishowkarma (MC Nepal), Sabin Duwas, Sisir Duwas (BCH), Suwash Hitan (Sunrise) and Santosh Chaudhary (OCID) finished fourth through tenth respectively.
Gita Subedi topped in the girls´ category. Sarba Dev Ojha, the minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare distributed prizes to the winners. Meanwhile, Nepal Chess Association President Rajesh Hari Joshi was also felicitated during the same function for being elected to the executive committee of FIDE, the world governing body of chess. The event was organized by OCID Nepal.
Wrestling Slam on Saturday
Wrestlers Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is organizing Wrestling Slam 2067, a wrestling show, at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday.
According to WWE President Manohar Basnet, the show is being organized to raise financial support for Naya Nepal Apanga Sewa Samaj, a social organization devoted to the welfare of differently-abled people. WWE has been organizing professional wrestling events in Nepal for the last four years with the slogan, "awareness against drugs".
According to the organizers, Wrestling Slam will feature 10 Nepali wrestlers --Manohar Basnet (Max B), Hikmat Thapaliya (Scorpion), Tanka Shrestha (Mr Yeti), Rupak Gautam (Lizard King), Ram Maharjan (Ajingar), Shyam Thapa (Rhino), Bhagat Rai (The Tateen), Prakash Shah (Warrior), Satya Chaudhary (King Cobra) and Durga Bahadur Ranamagar. Kuber KC and Dinesh Kunwar are the referees.
Meanwhile, the organizers are also planning to organize a wrestling event featuring wrestlers from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Total Nonstop Action (TNA) next year with a view to making Nepal Tourism Year 2011 a success.
TIA clean sweep Sunday´s matches
The hosts Trungram International Academy (TIA) won both their matches in the boys´ category of the ongoing Eighth Akira TIA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Sunday. Nishan Chhantyal scored 15 points as TIA ´A´ defeated Pennwood 49-43. The hosts then crushed AIA 28-19 riding on Abhishek Gurung´s 15 points.
Meanwhile, in the girls´ section, TIA thrashed Bagmati 26-11 while Daffodil and Angels´ Heart also won their respective matches. Daffodil beat Mahendra Bhawan 15-10 and Angels´ Heart defeated Malpi 18-7.
