LRI, Army School off to winning start
KATHMANDU: LRI and Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya (Army School) started the First Olympia Inter-school U-14 Knockout Football Tournament on a winning note. In the inaugural match on Tuesday, LRI thumped host Olympia 6-1 at the Jawalakhel ground. In another match, Army School registered a landslide 12-0 win over Chelsea International School. The tournament participated by eight teams will conclude on Saturday.
Nepali U-19 thrashes Millennium Club
KATHMANDU: Nepali U-19 team registered a thumping 255 runs win over visiting Millennium Int´l Sports Club of New Delhi during a friendly match played on Tuesday as part of preparation for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup to be held in Malaysia from June 23 to July 1.
Rajesh Pulami of Nepal hammered unbeaten 100 off 105 and skipper Prithu Baskota scored 88 off 86 before being trapped leg before as Nepali team garnered 358\\7 in the allotted 50 overs match. Krishna Karki remained unbeaten for 53 while Pradeep Aire (32), Subash Khakural (15) and Sagar Pun (11) contribute for the home team. Tarun Raghuwanshi, Sumit Panwar and Saurav Suneja claimed two wickets apiece for Millennium.
Following the mammoth run chase, Millennium could manage only 103 in 31 overs. Praddep Rathi was the highest scorer for visiting side scoring 60 off 71 and Saurav Suneja (18) was the other batsman to contribute double digit figure.
Kathford into quarterfinals
KATHMANDU: Kathford College stormed into the quarterfinal of Thames Inter-college T20 Cricket Tournament on Tuesday with an empathetic 86 runs victory over Campion College at the Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, Bhaktapur.
Winning the toss, Kathford opted to bat first and scored 154\\6, riding on 62 runs of Deepak Raj Bhatta who hammered eight fours and a six off 56 deliveries. Bhatta was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
Mahesh Joshi scored 23 runs for the winning side while Mahesh Khatir contributed 10 runs. Anil Shrestha, Pawan Shah, Rahul Chhetri and Inesh Maharjan claimed one wicket each for Campion.
Following the run chase, Campion could manage only 68 runs losing all wickets in 17.2 overs. Aman Agrawal (11) and Umesh Pandey (10) were the only batsmen for Campion to reach double digit figure.
Roshan Singh of Kathford claimed three wickets while Deepak Raj Bhatta, Omjee Upadhayay and Bhupendra Bohara claimed two wickets apiece for the winning side.
CAB will take on DAV and Kathford will play against NCC in the quarterfinal on Wednesday.
