Crack Heads wins
KATHMANDU: Crack Heads and SG Challengers started the Shree Ridhi Sidhi Marwadi Champions League with a win on Saturday. In the inaugural match of the tournament, Crack Heads defeated Ladli Lions by 13 runs while SG Challengers beat Friends XI by five wickets. In the match played at Modern Indian School, Crack heads won the toss and scored 164 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
Ankit Garg scored quick fire 47 off 31 balls. Ladli Lions could manage to score only 151 runs off 20 overs losing seven wickets. Amul Sharma´s 42 runs off 32 balls could not guide the team to victory. In another match, Friends XI won the toss and scored 126 runs losing all wickets in 18.5 overs. SG Challengers meet the target in just 16.2 overs for the loss of five wickets. Punit Agrawal scored not out 33 runs off 23 balls.
Golden Gate, Premier clinch titles
KATHMANDU: Golden Gate and Premier clinched the men´s and women´s titles respectively in the Father Dionelli Memorial 3X3 Basketball Tournament held in the capital. In men´s title clash, Golden Gate saw off British Gorkha College 21-15 riding on 16 points of Sushil Gurung. Golden Gate was awarded with Rs 25,000 and British Gorkha Rs 10,000. In women´s final, Premier saw off Golden Gate 15-11. Sujata Rai contributed seven points in Premier´s victory. Premier received Rs 8,000 and Golden Gate bagged Rs 4,000.
Nepal leads Sambo Championship
KATHMANDU: Nepal is leading medal tally in the First South Asian Sambo Championship on Saturday, winning six gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals in the opening day. Afghanistan, which is just behind Nepal in the tally with six gold and one silver medals, gave a tough challenge to their opponents, claiming six golds out of nine events in the men´s category as Nepal won only two golds, courtesy Purna Ghising and Rudra Limbu.
Winning four golds, it was the Nepali women´s team that saved the blushes for the host. Nabina Lama defeated India´s Rekha in the women´s U-48 kg final while Priya Limbu of Nepal secured bronze. Likewise, Sunita Magar (U-68 kg), Geeta Rana Magar (U-64 kg) and Santoshi Ghale (U-60 kg) also claimed gold for Nepal. Neetu Singh (U-52 kg) and Bhawana Sharma (U-56 kg) won gold medals for India. India is in the third position in the two-day event being held at the MMAC Hall, Nayabazar, with three gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
Altogether, 250 athletes from Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Bhutan are competing in the first-ever international sambo championship being held in Kathmandu, according to Dan Bahadur Ghising, the founding member and former president of Nepal Sambo Federation.
