140 passengers arrive and 172 depart on Saturday
KATHMANDU, May 10: India's low-cost airline SpiceJet has resumed its regular Delhi-Kathmandu-Delhi flight after six years. On Saturday morning, a SpiceJet aircraft landed at Tribhuvan International Airport with 140 passengers aboard, according to Banney Shrestha, Commercial Director of the official GSA, Himalaya Global Travel Services.
Shrestha confirmed that 172 passengers took the Kathmandu-Delhi flight. The airline has requested permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal to operate 14 flights per week. She further noted that the airline will initially operate seven commercial flights weekly.
SpiceJet to resume flights to Nepal from May 10
Zenith Travel previously served as SpiceJet's GSA. With SpiceJet's return to regular service, competition among airlines on the Kathmandu-Delhi route is expected to increase, likely leading to lower airfares.
Currently, Nepal Airlines, Air India, and Air Indigo operate regular flights on this route. Air India runs four daily flights, Indigo operates two, and Nepal Airlines offers one.
SpiceJet will operate the route with a Boeing 737-800 series aircraft, which has a seating capacity of 189.
Founded in 1984, SpiceJet is a low-cost airline and ranks as the sixth-largest airline in India as of 2024. The airline flies to 60 domestic and 13 international destinations.
