Originally from Morang, 53-year-old Jeevan Bastola owns a garment stall in the street at Haugal, Patan. Having a brief experience as a teacher in Solukhumbu, Bastola remembers wandering around Kathmandu in hopes of finding a job.

Initially, he worked as a weaver but opted to start his own business in 1996. “I started selling clothes in Lagankhel, but the municipality wouldn’t let me sell there, so I shifted to Haugal,” remembers Bastola. Bastola has been tackling the hardships of life and providing his family with their basic requirements from what he earns from his stall. He adds, “I see my future in my children, and hope for a better life for them.” Bastola lives with his wife and they have a son and two daughters.
