KATHMANDU, Aug 10: Saying that the eight-story building at Koteswor near Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) is posing a threat to aviation safety, Development Committee of Legislature Parliament has directed Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Kathmandu Valley Town Development Committee (KVTDC) and Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) to solve the issue of the building within three months and submit the work details to the committee.

Rabindra Adhikari, chairman of the committee, said that based on the discussion held Monday, the eight-storey building has been a threat to aviation safety and the decision to give direction to three concerned authorities has been made.

"We also request the concerned authorities to study about other high-rise buildings if any in the airport area that have been causing problem or can ," Adhikari said.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kripasur Sherpa said that KMC and KVTDC need to seriously look into the issue, requesting the committee to follow up the issue with due attention.

The eight-storey house of Santa Lal Shahi has not only been posing a threat to aviation safety but also has been a headache for international airlines as it has compelled the aircraft to carry less weight.

Due to the house, the wide-body and narrow-body aircraft that take off from TIA are compelled to carry less weight - either passenger or cargo - than full capacity incurring huge loss as it stands tall at a distance of just 300 meters from where aircrafts take off.

Lawmakers in the committee said that the issue is of serious concern and the government must study on the matter and take action accordingly without delay.
