NEPALGUNJ, June 11: The photo has been in his pocket for weeks now. Time and again Bhimsen Shrestha takes it out, gazes at it with a painful expression on his face, and puts it back in carefully. At other times, he goes around asking people whether anyone has seen his boy anywhere. The father of 16-year-old Bisesh Shrestha is simply not himself these days even as the hope of his son surviving the devastating earthquake is getting slimmer and slimmer.

Bisesh, a 10th grader at Buddhajyoti Acadamy, has been missing since the earthquake on 25th April. On that fateful day, he was enjoying himself at Sundhara with his girlfriend. They were sitting in the shade near the boundary wall of the historic monument when the tall structure collapsed. In the ensuring chaos, the girl did not notice where her companion was. She was injured and taken to hospital from where she returned home after a few days.Meanwhile, after their son failed to return home on time, Bisesh's family became panicky. They visited every hospital in the capital, sought the help of the police, and asked everyone that they knew to have been close to Bishesh. But there was no clue about his whereabouts.

"We had lost all hope, but something rekindled it," said Bhimsen. "His facebook was found being used from Tulasipur, Dang, on 19 May, many days after the earthquake."

Bhimsen's happiness knew no bounds when the police at Hanumandhoka informed himof the facebook status. Police also told him that the boy must be alright as he would not have used facebook otherwise.

"I left for Dang that very moment. The police had told me that the facebook was used through a Ncell sim," said Bhimsen.

But the relentless quest for the son did not yield any result in Tulsipur either, although the search did not end there. After three days in Tulsipur, Bhimsen headed for Nepalgunj.

"One and half months have passed and I cannot find him. But I won't give up."

The family believes that Bishesh might have been traumatized by the earthquake. He might have felt too disturbed to think rationally. "Otherwise he would have been able to control himself. He could have understood that things would be alright," said Bhimsen. He is quite disappointed that 'his son might not have been able to control himself.' On the other hand, he is equally upset with the police for not being able to track his son even after tracing his sim card.
