Shrestha finished the front nine at three-under 33 and remained on par on the back nine to take a four-stroke lead over his nearest rivals at the completion of day I in the the eighth and final event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2010-11. Shrestha has been showing his consistency as he has already won four titles this season.[break]
Purna Sharma, last season´s order of merit winner Rabi Khadka and current season´s money leader and defending champion Rupak Acharya are jointly in the second position with one-over 73 at the par-72 Gokarna Course.
Sharma finished the front nine at two-under 34 but shot three-over 39 on the back nine. Meanwhile, Khadka and Acharya both completed the front nine on par but shot one-over 37 on the back nine.
Pashupati Sharma played a good round of golf on the front nine with three-under 33 but played disastrously on the back nine with five-over 41 to finish the day at two-over 74. Sharma is jointly in third position with Krishna Man Rajbahak and Deepak Neupane.
In amateur section, Samundra Giri finished day I on top with three-over 75 while his nearest rival Tashi Tsering was on six-over 78 at the end of the first day.
The cut will be applied after the completion of 36 holes to send only top 21 pros and ties into the final 36 holes. Top six amateurs would also join the top 21 pros in the final rounds.
Altogether 26 professional golfers are contesting for the winner´s trophy and Rs 80,000 out of the total cash prize of Rs 385,000. In the amateur section, 12 golfers are vying for the trophy.
