KATHMANDU, Dec 7: Seven political parties have reached a near-final agreement on the power-sharing arrangement in the newly formed Madhesh provincial government led by Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav.

The consensus was forged late on Saturday night following extensive coalition talks. Under the tentative agreement, the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal will receive the Speaker’s post along with three ministerial portfolios. The unified Nepali Communist Party faction, including the CPN (Unified Socialist), will also secure three ministries in the Madhesh government.

The Nepali Congress (NC), which has already secured the chief minister’s post, is set to obtain two ministries, while the Janamat Party will receive two portfolios. The Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), despite failing to secure a vote of confidence for the chief minister’s post, has also been allotted two ministries under the agreement.

Meanwhile, along with Chief Minister Yadav’s oath-taking, three ministers without portfolio were sworn in on Sunday. Those taking the oath of office and secrecy include Mahesh Prasad Yadav of the Janamat Party, Kanish Patel of the Unified Socialist, and Jangilal Yadav of the NC.

Chief Minister Yadav took his oath of office in his mother tongue, the Bajjika language, marking a symbolic gesture of regional and linguistic identity.
