School to close due to viral fever scare in Khotang

KHOTANG, Sept. 13: The Mahendrodaya Lower Secondary School in Yamkha of Khotang district is on the verge of closure after students stopped coming to school because of an epidemic of viral fever.



According to teacher Deukumar Khatri, some 100 students out of 200 have fallen ill from the fever. Three teachers have also fallen ill from the fever. [break]



They have been treated at the local health post. The viral has affected the whole village of the Wards. 5, 8, and 9. Elderly people and children have been more affected, locals said. As patients increased day by day, health teams have been treating in each houses, said teacher Khatri.



Meanwhile, in Dadeldhura, viral fever patients have been increasing in the far-western hilly district of Dadeldhura as necessary initiative was not taken for its control.



The viral fever started from some parts of the district two months ago has taken epidemic form in houses and patients are increasing.



Though the actual data has not been received, tens of thousands have fallen ill.



Health institutions have been feeling the pressure as 75 percent patients are of viral fever.



There is also a lack of even the minor medicines in many places, said health workers.



Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula, Achham, Bajhang, Bajura and Doti districts also have been affected from the epidemic. Patients of typhoid, Japanese encephalitis, and diarrhea have also increasing in the district.
