KATHMANDU, May 20: The Supreme Court (SC) has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday on a petition challenging the dismissal of a writ that sought to prevent Bishwo Paudel from being appointed as governor. The case will be heard by a single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla.
Amid speculation that former Vice-Chair of the National Planning Commission Paudel was poised to become the next governor, advocates Pratibha Upreti and Bishal Thapa filed a writ petition at the SC on May 13. They argued that Paudel was ineligible for the post due to his political affiliation.

On May 16, SC Registrar Bhadrakali Pokhrel dismissed the writ, calling it "unqualified." Pokhrel stated that the petition relied solely on media reports and failed to clarify how any collective right had been violated.
In response, Upreti and Thapa filed a petition challenging the dismissal. The SC has since listed the case for a hearing at Justice Malla's bench.
The petitioners argued that Paudel, a representative of Nepali Congress (NC) General Convention and a defeated candidate in the House of Representatives (HoR) election, should not be eligible for the governor's post due to his political background.
