KATHMANDU, Feb 24: The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday issued a show cause notice in the name of office of the president, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and his office and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to furnish written clarification over the decision to form an election government led by Chief Justice (CJ) Khil Raj Regmi.

A single bench of SC Justice Sushila Karki asked the defendants to furnish the clarification till March 5, in response to a writ petition filed arguing that four major parties’ decision was against the spirit of Interim Constitution and would encroach on the independence of judiciary.[break]

Advocate Bharat Mani Jangam  had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) on last Sunday challenging the decision of four major parties --UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) -- to form such a government.

According to today’s order, the final verdict on the petition will be issued following a hearing on March 7 in a special bench after the defendants furnish their written clarification.
