KATHMANDU, Dec 17: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a show-cause order in a writ petition filed by eight lawmakers of the Nepali Congress (NC) including former chief whips, challenging the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).
The petition, registered on December 9, was listed eighth on the Constitutional Bench’s cause list. Hearings on all cases listed before the bench were concluded before lunch on Wednesday.

Former Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati, who filed the petition on behalf of the NC lawmakers, confirmed that the court has issued a show-cause order. He said the case could be scheduled for a joint hearing with similar petitions once responses are submitted by all respondents.
The writ names the Office of the President, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Election Commission and the Speaker of the House of Representatives as respondents.
The petition argues that the House was dissolved in violation of the Constitution, alleging that a constitutionally disqualified individual was appointed prime minister and that the dissolution was carried out on the recommendation of an unconstitutional authority. The petition seeks immediate reinstatement of the House.
If the court rules in favor of the petitioners, Prime Minister Karki’s appointment could be invalidated, potentially affecting her official record.
