KATHMANDU, July 17: Nepali rupee weakened by 11 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, shed value against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, came down by Rs 1,030 per 10 grams this week.
CURRENCYRupee lost 11 paisa against US dollar to close at 101.87 on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 101.76.
The local unit gained 3 paisa on Monday to settle at 101.73 against US dollar. Rupee, however, lost 11 paisa on Tuesday against the greenback to close at 101.84. On Wednesday, rupee lost another 4 paisa to settle at 101.88 against dollar. The local currency gained 14 paisa on Thursday, to close the day's trading at 101.74 against US dollar. Rupee lost 13 paisa on Friday to close the week's trading at 101.87.
Meanwhile, rupee gained Rs 2.78 against euro and lost Rs 1.31 against Pound Sterling over the week. A Euro was exchanged at Rs 111.07 on Friday, while the British Pound was valued Rs 159.20.
BULLION
Gold price came down by Rs 1,030 per 10 grams to Rs 42,440 this week. Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 43,470 per 10 grams.
Though gold price remained unchanged on Monday, it came down by Rs 175 per 10 grams to Rs 43,295 on Tuesday. Though gold price remained unchanged on Wednesday as well, it fell by Rs 255 per 10 grams to Rs 43,040 on Thursday. Price of gold came down by Rs 600 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 42,440.
Meanwhile, price of silver came down by Rs 4.50 per 10 grams this week. Silver was traded at Rs 574.5 per 10 grams on Friday.
