KATHMANDU, May 29: Nepali rupee lost 42 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, lost value against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, came down by Rs 430 per 10 grams this week.CURRENCY
Rupee lost 42 paisa to close at 102.38 against US dollar on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 101.96.
Though rupee's value increased by 2 paisa against US dollar to 101.94 on Monday, it shed 11 paisa to close at 102.05 on Tuesday. The local currency lost another 54 paisa against the greenback on Wednesday to settle at 102.59. Rupee, however, rallied on Thursday, gaining 4 paisa to close at 102.55 against US dollar. Rupee gained another 17 paisa against US dollar to close the week's trading at 102.38 on Friday
Meanwhile, rupee gained Rs 1.86 against euro and Rs 2.8 against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 112.02 on Friday, while the British Pound was valued Rs 156.99.
BULLION
Gold price came down by Rs 430 per 10 grams to Rs 44,580 this week. Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 45,010 per 10 grams.
Gold price fell by Rs 85 per 10 grams on Monday to Rs 44,925. The price, however, went up by Rs 85 per 10 grams on Tuesday to Rs 45,010. Price of yellow metal came down by Rs 170 per 10 grams and was traded at Rs 44,840 on Wednesday. Gold price went down by Rs 260 per 10 grams on Thursday to settle at Rs 44,580. Price of gold remained unchanged on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 44,580 per 10 grams.
Similarly, price of silver dropped by Rs 8.5 per 10 grams over the week. Silver was traded at Rs 621.5 per 10 grams on Friday.
