KATHMANDU, March 7: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has surged ahead in the ongoing vote counting of the House of Representatives (HoR) elections, securing 20 seats and leading in 97 constituencies, far outpacing Nepal’s traditional political parties.

According to the latest updates, the Nepali Congress (NC) has won five seats and is currently leading in nine constituencies. The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has secured two seats and is ahead in 10 constituencies, while the CPN-UML has won one seat and is leading in 12 constituencies.

Early trends from the 165 constituencies where polling was held on Thursday indicate a sweeping performance by the RSP, placing the relatively new political force well ahead of Nepal’s long-established parties.

Among those already declared winners from the RSP are Ranju Neupane (Kathmandu-1), Rajunath Pandey (Kathmandu-3), Pukar Bam (Kathmandu-4), Sasmit Pokharel (Kathmandu-5), Pradeep Bista (Kathmandu-10), Ganesh Parajuli (Kathmandu-7), Shisir Khanal (Kathmandu-6), Biraj Bhakta Shrestha (Kathmandu-8), Manish Jha (Dhanusha-3), Bina Gurung (Kaski-3), Khagendra Sunar (Banke-3), Suresh Kumar Chaudhary (Banke-1) and Kanhaiya Baniya (Rupandehi-1), among others.

Similarly, the NC has declared five winners so far, including Tek Bahadur Gurung (Manang), Yogesh Gauchan Thakali (Mustang), Mohan Acharya (Rasuwa), Santosh Subba (Terhathum-1) and Basana Thapa (Dailekh-1).

From the NCP, Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Rukum East) and Mahendra Bahadur Shahi (Kalikot) have been declared winners, while the CPN-UML’s Mohammad Istiyak Rai has secured victory from Banke-1.

Political observers say the early results reflect a strong public appetite for change, with voters appearing to shift their support away from established parties toward newer political forces.

Vote counting is still underway across the country, and the overall picture is expected to become clearer as more constituencies finalize their results.
