According to Pradeep Jha, central regional chief of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the remains of the four bodies were found on Thursday and search for the remaining one is in progress.

The remains were found along with chains, wristbands, jacket zippers, eye bandages, and magazines during the excavation, he said.

NHRC Regional Director Bed Prasad Bhattarai said kin of the disappeared can only perform their last rites once their identities are established through scientific tests.

The exhumation started following complaints lodged by victims´ families at NHRC. Kin of the victims say security personnel during the insurgency period arrested Sanjeev Kumar Karna, Durgesh Lav, Pramod Narayan Mandal, Jitendra Jha and Shailendra Yadav, shot them dead on the bank of the Kamala River and buried their bodies in the jungle.
