KATHMANDU, March 28: Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) has warned that it would launch further protests if the government failed to address their demands related to the provision of service charge.

General Secretary of NAFEA Rohan Gurung said that they will publicize future protest after the meeting with all recruiting agencies on Thursday. "We have been demanding with the government to revive the existing provision of levying the service charge on the aspirant workers as it is not possible to secure job demands under the new scheme imposed upon them by the government."

NAFEA has asked the government to revive the provision charging up to Rs 10,000 as service charge from the aspirant migrant workers and come up with a policy that helps them secure new jobs.

The employment agencies had stopped their services from 6 March protesting against the police raids at their offices. Later, the agencies have shifted their demands to roll back the decision of free visa and free ticket system that was implemented by then Minister for Labor and Employment Tek Bahadur Gurung from 6 July, 2015.

Under the free visa, free ticket system, an outbound migrant worker has to pay only up to Rs 17,000 that includes service charge to the employment agencies also.

Before the closure of recruitment agencies, 1500-1700 Nepali youths would leave the country for foreign employment on daily basis.
