KATHMANDU, March 6: Vote counting has begun in Rukum East, where Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal is a candidate.
According to Chief District Officer Sita Pariyar, vote counting started at 6 AM. Ballot boxes from three remote locations were transported to the district headquarters by helicopter yesterday. Security has been tightened at the counting venue with wire fencing installed around the site, she said.
Injunction continues as tension flares up in Rukum East
In the initial vote count, Dahal is leading. He has secured 1,415 votes, while Kusum Thapa of the Nepali Congress has received 417 votes. Lilamani Gautam of the CPN-UML has received 431 votes.
Similarly, Sandip Pun of the Progressive Democratic Party has received 35 votes, while Lakhankumar Thapa of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has secured 176 votes.
According to CDO Pariyar, the final result from the district is expected to be published by this evening.
