This marks the first formal dialogue between President Paudel and political leaders following the dissolution of the HoR and the subsequent formation of a new government, which took place against the backdrop of the September 8 and 9 Gen Z demonstrations.
According to the Office of the President, Prime Minister Sushila Karki is participating in the discussions, alongside chairpersons and the second-rung leaders of various political parties. The agenda is expected to focus on election preparations, political consensus and the transitional dynamics in the wake of recent political shifts.
President Paudel’s move is seen as a crucial step toward ensuring a stable election and fostering dialogue among key political stakeholders during a time of uncertainty.
Earlier, the Election Commission had also repeatedly reminded the government to win the confidence of political parties for the election. The major parties have given mixed reaction over the call of the government to hold an election on March 5 after the dissolution of the House.
The discussion comes in the wake of CPN-UML Chairman K P Oli saying in a public event that they were not included in the discussion for the upcoming election.
