According to the president´s personal secretary Lalit Basnet, President Yadav held an 40-minute meeting with Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday and asked the Maoist supremo to play a responsible role to help draft the constitution within the stipulated time. [break]
The president asked the Maoist Chairman to play constructive role for peace and constitution making in his capacity as the chief of the largest political party in the Constituent Assembly.
“There has been anxiety among people that new constitution will not be promulgated on time,” he quoted the President as saying. “This (delay in constitution) could lead the country toward a catastrophe,” the president said.
Talking briefly to the media after the meeting, Dahal said he held discussion on various contemporary issues with the president.
Dahal said that the president asked him to play a responsible role to draft new constitution and take the ongoing peace process to a logical end. President also expressed worries about the country´s state of affairs heading toward unmanageable situation due to growing differences among the major political parties, according to Dahal.
“I told him (president) that I will work in a serious manner from a new beginning to help take the peace process to a conclusion,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Nepali Congress (NC) President Koirala had also told the Maoist Chairman that the latter had a big responsibility on his shoulders to take the peace process to a logical end.
Koirala also asked Dahal, who reached the Gangalal Heart Center before Koirala was discharged, to fulfill his responsibilities.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Dahal said Koirala told him in a serious mood that he had a big responsibility on his shoulders and also asked him to fulfill that responsibility. “I told him that I will do my best,” Dahal added.
