KATHMANDU, June 11: Press Chautari Nepal has expressed serious concern over the order issued by the Kathmandu District Court to remove news articles published on Bizmandu.com and NepalKhabar.com, as well as the arrest warrant issued against journalist Dil Bhushan Pathak in relation to those news reports.
A statement issued by Hira Man Lama, General Secretary of Press Chautari Nepal, reminded that Nepal’s Constitution guarantees full press freedom and freedom of expression in its preamble. The statement also clarified that if there is dissatisfaction or a dispute regarding published or broadcast content, the constitutional and legal authority for initial evaluation and resolution lies with the Press Council Nepal.

“We are clear that the responsibility to uphold the Constitution lies with the respected court,” the statement said, “We have strong faith that the court will review the preliminary order and make corrections in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution and the law.”
Along with this, Press Chautari has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the arrest warrant issued by the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau against journalist Pathak, stating that the move is against press freedom.
Press Chautari has expressed its full commitment to protecting press freedom, safeguarding journalists’ professional independence, and upholding the institutional dignity of the Press Council Nepal. Additionally, Chautari has urged all media outlets and journalists to fully adhere to the journalists’ code of conduct.
